Digital Upgrade

Quote:
"When we criticize students for making digital videos instead of reading “Gravity’s Rainbow,” or squabbling on Politico.com instead of watching “The Candidate,” we are blinding ourselves to the world as it is."

Reaction:
Here it is stating how Teachers are getting upset with students because they aren't doing what the teacher wants them to do to understand the material. I believe that maybe instead of getting upset that they aren't reading "Gravity's Rainbow" they should have them make digital videos about "Gravity's Rainbow" to get their understanding of the material. And if the students enjoy debating the teacher should take the main ideas of "The Candidate" and have students split up into groups and debate the ideas. These students may be able to understand the material a lot more if these teachers present the material in a way the students enjoy it.

In this video it shows how teaching in the 21st century needs to be different. They want to engage students in stuff they think is cool. They want to use the things that students are use to and find interesting. They want to use materials that students use in their everyday life to make learning fun. Just as I had stated that instead of just reading or watching make it interactive.

  2. I agree that making videos for a class would be a great idea and I feel that more schools should use the technology in their teaching styles. School systemes need to open their eyes to the technology we have available to us now and realize that technology is our future.

  3. I agree that students respond better and will absorb much more information from an assignment if they are able to complete the assignment in a way that they feel comfortable with. Students today are comfortable with technology (for the most part), and teachers need to be able and willing to accommodate that.

  4. Sarah,
I agree with the idea of debate because I know students find debates more enjoyable, talking from experience, because they have the chance to speak on something they feel strongly about. I also agree with integrating multimedia into the classroom when reading a book because it makes it easier to comprehend a book when they have something other than the book to go on. Great journal entry!
