"I contacted several of the spelling-reform organizations in operation today to ask them about their feelings on adopting text-messaging shorthands as a kind of spelling reform."
Reaction:
I believe that text-messaging shorthand should not be a kind of spelling reform. People using shorthand all the time just are simply too lazy to write out the word. Sometimes the shorthand is just as long as the actual word, so what is the point to shorthand it. You might as well just spell the actual word out. Society, believes that everything just be easy and thrown at them with all answers and that’s not how it works. It is going to look not very professional with a whole bunch of shorthand writing. Words were spelt like they are for a reason.

I agree with you. Nowadays, people are getting too lazy. This is not good at all. We sometimes do rely on some machines to make our lives easier, but that doesn't mean we need somebody to feed us even we are physically healthy. There are still many things should be handled in the way people did in 16th century.
ReplyDeleteI agree! Just because people are using shorthand more and more does not mean it should become scholastically acceptable! How annoying would it be to read a paper that is completely in shorthand!? I have nothing against people using texting lingo when they are texting, just keep it confined to casual language please.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Rebecca. I prefer to use informal and formal language in the appropriate format.
