WebQuest
Your Role
| ___Efficiency Expert | _x__Affiliator | ___Altitudinist | ___Technophile |
Your Impressions
| WebQuest | Strengths | Weaknesses |
| Grow School Greens | They work in groups. | No weaknesses |
| Where is My Hero? | They work with others. | No weaknesses |
| Underground Railroad | They work together in a group and as a class | No weaknesses |
| Ice Cream | They work in groups. | There are no weaknesses |
| Ancient Egypt | They work with one other person | No weaknesses |
Which two of example WebQuests listed on the Elementary link are the best ones? Why?
The two best ones were Unraveling the Underground Railroad, because it was very structured and also had fun with it. It seems very interesting and the teachers even get involved. And the other one was the Where is my Hero, because this one teaches morals for the students. Some students may not understand the word hero.
Which two are the worst? Why?
The two worst were Ancient Egypt, because it was very wordy, and not very well structured. The other was the Grow School Greens, because this is very time consuming, it may take too much time out of learning.
What do best and worst mean to you?
Best means that it is going to be educational, but also they are entertaining for the students. It is very well structured and easily understandable. Worst means that it is not as educational or entertaining for the students. It isn't very structured for the students and hard to understand. Or it is too long and could become boring to the students.

Life on the Screen
Quote: "Our system of education is locked in a time capsule. You want to say to the people in charge, 'You're not using today's tools! Wake up!"
Response:
I totally agree with this statement. A lot of schools are still using the old way to teach. They are not making anything different from when they first started teaching. They need to change the way they teach as time goes on. New tools are being made for a reason to make things easier and more interesting and teachers need to start to realize that they need to use them. It will make students want to attend school more. If students know that they are going be having fun in class, it will make it more enjoyable for them to attend.

Social Networking Banned for Sex Offenders
The argument in this article is that sex offenders should not be banned from social networking sites. They were stating why sex offenders should not be banned from social networking sites.
The evidence presented to support the argument was that some sex offenders are not in danger of children. That some sex offenders are on listed as a sex offender because of visiting prostitutes or peeing in public. They also state that there are very low incidents where a sex offender harms a child because of social networking.
I believe that if the sex offender is listed as one because of rape or molestation then they should not have the privileged of social networking. I know if I had a child I would not want the chance of a sex offender finding my child on their and watching them on their site.

1. Did the class activity about Wikipedia and this article change your opinion about the value of Wikipedia to society in general and education specifically?
Yes, I did not realize that people can easily change the information to the correct information. And that you can see where they have corrected things. Wikipedia still may not be the best source for information, but I do realize it could be a better source of information than what some teachers make it out to be.
2. Describe how you might direct students to use Wikipedia in your future classroom. ( Blogging Points for this assignment)
I would have my students read the article about how you can tell if information was corrected or needs corrected on the Wikipedia. I would tell them not to use it as their main reference, but for little parts of it they could if they knew they were reading it correctly.

Wikipedia Questions
a. What is Wikipedia?
Wikipedia is a multilingual, Web-based encyclopedia project, operated by the Wikimedia Foundation, a nonprofit organization.
b. How would you answer the question posed in this piece “How reliable can a source be when anyone can edit it?”
I feel as if sights that you can edit are not very reliable, because any one can sign on and change things.
c. Who do the creators of Wikipedia place their trust in when it comes to weeding out misinformation?
"Wisdom of Crowds"
d. Why did founder Larry Sanger leave Wikipedia?
He believed that it should give more authority to experts.
e. What would abuse or vandalism look like on a Wikipedia page?
Changing a person's bibliography to mean and nasty things.
f. What do the statistics quoted in the third paragraph of this piece reveal?
That there are many Wikipedia articles out there and how can every single one of them be monitored correctly.
g. Why do you think Wikipedia is so successful?
I believe it is so successful because some people are not aware of the site and how it is not 100% true, so they use them.
h. Why might Wikipedia’s creators not want to accept advertising?
Maybe, because then if someone is advertising on the page they might ask them to change things on it.
i. How does Wikiscanner help increase the reliability of Wikipedia entries?
It shows who is trying to edit things and what they are editing.

Response:
I was flabbergasted when I read this; no teacher should ever talk to a student like this. A teacher should make an effort to talk to every student and try to help every student as much as possible. The teacher is there to teach and should try to help a student even if they believe there is no hope in helping them. They may never know they could be that one teacher that changes a student’s life. A teacher saying this to a child will just make a student hate school and not go because the teacher doesn’t speak to them or help them in their school work.

Internet & Anti-Social Behavior
Quote:"A disturbing trend called "sexting," sending or receiving sexually explicit pictures, suggests that teens, while socially active online, are not aware of the potential negative repercussions of sharing too much intimate detail of any kind, about themselves."
Response:
"Parents should take into their own hands and explaining to their children what is appropriate and what isn’t appropriate for them to do. Or even schools should have an assembly with students every year or every half of the year to show students the dangers of sexting. Teens are not fully aware of what the dangers of sexting are or why they shouldn’t do it. Some one needs to make them aware of all the dangers of it. I know in my high school career that no one ever informed the students why they shouldn’t sext to other people."

TikaTok
The tool I picked is called Tikatok; this is a website to create your own book online. You can even then purchase your book after it is completed. I would use this tool in the content area of reading. I would have the class as a whole write a story. Each student would make their own page of the story. One at a time a student would go up to a computer in class and create a page of the story and then another student would follow. After the story was finished I would sit all the students around to read the story aloud, so they all can hear the story. Then after I would give them the site to take home so if they wanted to purchase it they could. Something I would have to consider before using this tool is that I would have to proof read each page before the next student writes , to make sure it is appropriate for the story.

Voki
A lesson plan I would use for voki would be for Kindergarten. What I wuold do is make the voki dress for a certain season and put the background as that season. Then the voki would talk about different things about that certain season. This would help students learn the different seasons. They could guess what season the voki is demostrating. Then they could create their own season to show they know the difference in seasons.

Response:
Students should be assigned homework that is from the internet. I believe even starting in the 4th or 5th grade they should start searching the web for answers for homework. In society it is all about using the internet or computer for something. Students should start from a younger age what it is to use internet for correct information. This could help out by students realizing earlier that not all information is true. If students start with one internet assignment once a week at a younger age by the time they are in high school and have bigger projects they will understand how to use the internet for correct information easier. Understanding the internet and the false and true information is important for students to understand.

Picture 2 of Arnold
1. I see a man that’s happy with himself and is trying to have others feel the same way towards him. He wants to come off friendly and have people like him.
2. He makes me feel that he is a good man and that I could trust him as a politician. He has a smile on his face and wants to involve the society by pointing at them.
3. By this photo he makes me think that he’s out there for the good and that he doesn’t think he’s better than anyone else.
4. . He looks like he’s ready for a business meeting of some sort and is cheerful about his life. These looks make me feel as if I could go up and talk to him and he wouldn’t be a complete jerk compared to the last photo where I felt as if he would treat me lesser than him.
5. He is showing the lifestyle that he wants people to vote for him and support him. With him pointing it gives the impression he is speaking to you and not just a photo. It shows he is involving society.
6. The differences in the two photos are that one photo is friendly and happy and the other is “Mr. Tough man” and all serious. The techniques that are used in the photos are like in the first one he is showing off his muscles to catch peoples’ eye and want to look like that. And the other one is him smiling and pointing, this shows that he is talking to you and make attract people because it is a different kind of photograph.
Picture 1 of Arnold
1. I see Arnold trying to show off his muscles and show people that if they read this magazine they could look like him too. He looks angry at something.
2. He really doesn’t make me feel anything besides that he is just trying to show off the muscles.
3. When looking at this photo it makes me think is just another muscle “hot shot” he thinks he is better than others because he’s in shape.
4. The glasses he is wearing make him look like he’s too good for people and wears them so no one can see him or may eye contact with him. The look on his face just looks angry and not a friendly person to go up to. These looks make me feel like if I saw him in person I would not want to approach him and say hi.
5. The lifestyle and values in this photo is all about getting bigger muscles and working out to look like him. It doesn’t show happiness in the photo though.

21st Century Literacy
Quote:
"Since we know that students don’t visually distinguish between content and advertising—they click on ads as just another content source"
Response:
I believe teachers should teach students that not everything is true that is posted online. Advertisements are not good for a content source. As a student I did not know that some things posted online were false information. Until about the 10th grade I didn’t know that Wikipedia was something for anyone to post on. Teachers need to aware their students that not everything is true. If students know where to find the truth about information they could actually become more interested in a topic. It’s up to the teacher on helping students understand false and correct information.

BP Gulf leak could stain
Based on what you have observed list three things you might infer from the photograph.
1. He seems to be listening closely to the person that is speaking to him.
2. It also seems like he has thought about the problem with the map in the back.
3. He seems to look concerned with the issue.
What questions does this photo raise in your mind?
I wonder what the picture in the background is all about.
Which picture gives you more confidence in the president's leadership abilities? Why?
The first picture gives me more confidence in the president's leadership. I believe this because in the first picture he seems to be walking confident and has others following.
Obama ready to seize claims process
Based on what you have observed list three things you might infer from the photograph.
1. That they feel accomplished on what they have done. Or even they have a good feeling about what they are going to do.
2. That more than one person is concerned about it.
3. The guys in the background are on a look out for something.
What questions does this photo raise in your mind?
I wonder what they have just done before this photo was takent that they all seem so happy about.

Discussion on Photostory
We had to create a photostory about a teaching quote. We had to add photos with text to the story. The goal to this project was to make an impact with the video. My quote was "If the student fails to learn, the teacher fails to teach." With my photos I tried to use photos that would help a teacher to teach in a way that makes the student better at learning. I had ended the photostory with the words, "You may impact a student's life", and some teachers may not realize that they got a student through school, because of their class.
This program works with the ISTE NETS number 2. It works with digital learning experiences. Teachers could create their own and teach students or even students creating their own photo stories and show the teacher their own knowledge of knowing how to use technology.
Digital story could promote learning in my classroom in the future because it’s a fun way to learn. Its information that a student may need to know in a different way than a textbook. It is in text form, but the students don't realize it because they are watching a video YOU created so it seems more fun for the students.
As a lesson using digital story I would have students make one at the beginning of the year with them putting what they believe their strengths and weaknesses are in school. Then I could go off of this for the rest of the year knowing what students believe they aren't good at to help them improve in that area. Then at the end of the year have the students make another one to see if the strengths and weaknesses had changed from the beginning of the year.

Art Becoming the Next R
Quote:
"We need not linger any longer over whether art should have a permanent and central place in our school curriculum. It should, and we need to move quickly to prepare students to be literate in the world that they are inheriting and rapidly shaping. In the digital age, art skills are not just good for the soul, but they provide, in the words of Elliot Eisner (1988), "access to cultural capital," and ultimately, access to employment."
Response:
This question should have not been a question to discuss. Art is a very important part of the school curriculum. Art is a way for students to express themselves. With not having art in the school curriculum it could cause the students to never know if they would like to major in the arts. Some people don’t realize that drawing is not the only form of art. There are many different kinds like music, dancing, theater, and etc. Many jobs use art in the workplace. This could cause students not to be ready for certain employment because they never learned art in school. Art is important for everyone to know. Maybe it isn’t just drawing to be important, but the creativity part of art is really important.

Response:
I believe that students should read a story out loud before they put a digital story together. They get an understanding of the material before they start producing it. If they start to just make the digital story they could miss important parts because they did not read it before hand and see what they thought was important and not important. Reading the story out loud you get a better insight of the story rather than reading to yourselves. If more than one person are reading it others can see what the other students believe to be the important part of that story.

Reaction:
I believe that text-messaging shorthand should not be a kind of spelling reform. People using shorthand all the time just are simply too lazy to write out the word. Sometimes the shorthand is just as long as the actual word, so what is the point to shorthand it. You might as well just spell the actual word out. Society, believes that everything just be easy and thrown at them with all answers and that’s not how it works. It is going to look not very professional with a whole bunch of shorthand writing. Words were spelt like they are for a reason.

Learning Styles
I found out on the learning test that I am an aural learning. I learn best with hearing things aloud to me. To take information in I need to attend classes and or discussions. I need to hear the information to understand it better. For studying I need to write them better, because I prefer listening it and my notes lack information, because I like listening to the information better. When taking a test I need to act as if I'm talking to the examiner in my head. I need to read the questions aloud softly or in my head. I take tests better in quiet. Some stratergies I need to employ is taking better notes while listening to lectures. I do believe that this test is accurate, because I do learn better listening.

Wordle & Poll Everywhere
For Poll Everywhere we had created a question that we wanted to know more about our peers. Then we had our peers answer these questtions. After the question was answered we created a wordle with the answers to the question. The wordle creates an image of all the answers in a fun way.
As wanting to be a Kindergarden teacher I would love to use wordle to make it a more fun way to learn. I could use wordle as a vocabulary words. Or where I'm from they call them "sight words" for Kindergarden students. Here, I could post their vocabulary words into a wordle and then have them look at the words and write the words down into catergories such as colors, numbers and such. This way I can see they completely understand the word.
The use of wordle has a connection with ISTE NETS-T Standard 1 because it is taking the material you have taught into a collaborative tool to see that the students have a conceptual understanding and creative process of the material taught.
Using Poll Everywhere in your classroom has a connection with ISTE NETS-T Standard 2 beacause this way you can have every child participate without being embarrassed because of not knowing the answer. It can also help others learn in a different way by seeing other students responses and understand the question more. It also helps students understand how to answer questions through technology, or even find different resources other than the book.
Both of these tools can promote learning in the classroom because its a different way to come about your material and more interactive for students. Its not the boring book or sheet of paper you passed out. They will be more engaged because its hands on.

Language Changing (Double Journal Entry 2
Quote
"In each instance, technology enhances our ability to manipulate our communication with others. As the arsenal of control devices continues to grow, we increasingly come to see language not as an opportunity for interpersonal dialogue but as a system we can maneuver for individual gain."
Reaction
With technology evolving more and more as a form of communication for people, actual public speaking comes to a downfall. It makes some socially declined. From former experience people have no problem talking to someone over text message or instant messaging, but when they see them in person they try to avoid them. This could make getting jobs or keeping a job an issue later in life. If people can't talk to someone face to face how are they supposed to make a living off of this. You especially see this in middle school aged children. They can text guys they go to school with, but once they see them in person they are too nervous to talk to them.

Digital Upgrade
Quote:
"When we criticize students for making digital videos instead of reading “Gravity’s Rainbow,” or squabbling on Politico.com instead of watching “The Candidate,” we are blinding ourselves to the world as it is."
Reaction:
Here it is stating how Teachers are getting upset with students because they aren't doing what the teacher wants them to do to understand the material. I believe that maybe instead of getting upset that they aren't reading "Gravity's Rainbow" they should have them make digital videos about "Gravity's Rainbow" to get their understanding of the material. And if the students enjoy debating the teacher should take the main ideas of "The Candidate" and have students split up into groups and debate the ideas. These students may be able to understand the material a lot more if these teachers present the material in a way the students enjoy it.

In this video it shows how teaching in the 21st century needs to be different. They want to engage students in stuff they think is cool. They want to use the things that students are use to and find interesting. They want to use materials that students use in their everyday life to make learning fun. Just as I had stated that instead of just reading or watching make it interactive.
